Musician and former Big Brother Africa 3 housemate, Wilhelmina Andani known in showbiz as Mimi is billed to perform alongside world acclaimed Irish boy band, Westlife in Namibia.
The female artiste has been invited by the Namibian government as one of the headline artistes to grace the 2011 Windhoek Festival (Hart van Windhoek festival) at the Doc Jubber hockey and cricket grounds in Olympia in Windhoek, Namibia.
The festival is the second event of the famous South African Huisgenoot magazine in Namibia with organizers hoping to draw even a bigger crowd than the 2010 version, which welcomed a crowd of over 18,000 people.
The festival will be headlined by Westlife with other well known acts such as Freshlyground, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Theuns Jordaan, Kurt Darren, Dogg, Dal Level and Snitch also performing at the event.
The elated Mimi confirmed the invitation in an interview with Source on Wednesday saying she is excited to be performing in the Southern African country. “It’s not my first time. I have performed at several events including the Big Brother Africa All Stars in South Africa. I feel good; I am excited to go back.”
She refuted assertions that her invitation maybe due to her appearance at the third edition of the Big Brother Africa reality show saying it was due to hard work.
“It is not because of Big Brother Africa Amplified (BBA), it’s my hard work and how far my music has gone. Because they’ve seen my work … My songs are big hits in some African countries.”
According to her, it is disheartening that Ghanaians are not recognizing her works: “Ghana has not realized what they have or who I am … maybe I have to improve on my Public Relations (PR). I can boast that I am the biggest artiste in Ghana. I have performed in several countries including Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa.”
Mimi said she will arrive in Namibia on September 23 and will perform at the festival on September 24 and 25. (However the official website for the festival is quoting the festival dates as September 16 and 17).
Before she lands in Namibia, she will perform at the forthcoming Ghanafest in South Africa on September 17, alongside some Ghanaian artistes. Ghanafest is an event that brings together Ghanaians in South Africa to exhibit the country’s unique culture and products.
The Tattoo singer disclosed that there are several interviews lined up for her in South Africa after the September 17 performance. She will be interviewed by Channel O and MTV Base and will also have recording sessions with some South African artistes.
Mimi will be in Namibia from September 23 to October 3 and is also billed to perform at the 2011 Miss Adehye of the University of Cape Coast on October 8.
